Roughly from several months old into the second year, Frenchies often hit a “teenager” phase: more confidence, selective hearing, and energy that outruns puppy naps. Structure keeps this stage fun instead of chaotic.
Training that sticks
- Short, frequent sessions beat long drills
- Reinforce sit, come, leave-it, and calm leash manners
- Stay consistent — mixed rules confuse adolescent dogs
Exercise without overheating
Sub-adults can look ready for big adventures before their bodies and airways are. Prefer cool-hour walks, puzzle toys, and indoor play. On hot days, midday outdoor workouts are a hard no.
Body condition & joints
Growth spurts invite overfeeding. Keep ribs easy to feel under a light cover of fat, and avoid repetitive high-impact jumping off furniture while joints are still maturing.
Social manners
Continue calm meet-and-greets. If reactivity shows up, address it early with a trainer who understands compact, brachycephalic breeds — don’t wait for adulthood to “grow out of it.”
